Abie Abdillah

Abie Abdillah is an emerging Asian design talent. Trained as an industrial design student in his college years, and strengthened from his experience as junior designer in a furniture manufacturer and design studio based in Jakarta.

Having a keen passion for working with local materials such as rattan and teak wood, Abie has gained recognition for his works thanks to numerous awards and publications. He is now starting his own studio called Studiohiji, which is based in Tangerang, Jakarta.

The creation of the Yoko sofa set started from a Designer Dispatch Service program, which was initiated by the Ministry of Trade of the Republic of Indonesia and the Japan International Cooperation Agency. The project was meant to increase the value of local manufacturing through design.

By working with one of the most versatile manufacturers, the Yoko sofa set was created to expose the essence of the materials being used. Either it was a combination of powder-coated aluminum steel with rattan cores for indoor purposes, or with synthetic rods for outdoor.
