Abie Abdillah is an emerging Asian design talent. Trained as industrial design student from the college years, and strengthened from his experience as junior designer in a furniture manufacturer and design studio based in Jakarta.
Having a keen passion to work with local materials such as rattan and teak wood, Abie has gained recognition of his works thanks to numerous awards and publications. He is now starting his own studio called “studiohiji”, which is based in Tangerang, Jakarta.
The creation of Yoko sofa set started from a Designer Dispatch Service programme, which was initiated by the Ministry of Trade of the Republic of Indonesia and the Japan International Cooperation Agency. The project was meant to increase the value of local manufacture through design.
By working with one of the most versatile manufacturers, Yoko sofa set was created to expose the essence of the materials being used. Either it was a combination of powder coated aluminium steel with rattan cores for indoor purpose, or with synthetic rods for outdoor.
