Lightness and strength are the most important characteristics of the aluminum used in
the collections of cbdesign. The malleability of this material makes it easy to work with and allows more space for creativity, making it possible to create new and authentic shapes for an impressive design. In the cbdesign collections, aluminum is an integral part of the design altogether with either the synthetic spoke profile or the weaves.
In 2011, cbdesign introduced powder-coating aluminum frames which, combined with the synthetic spoke profile, reproduced the voluminous and natural wicker style of the garden furniture from the seventies: the retro-style collections with exposed frames are the distinctive signature of cbdesign. Over time, the techniques evolve towards profiles that stay prominent but are more subtle, that keep their strength unaltered but create modern and essential lines.
In addition to the spoke profile, the aluminum is combined with weaves which, depending on the process, create detailed textures and decorative motifs.
The aluminum can be enhanced with an exclusive cbdesign process called Manao Texture: a complex process divided into several phases where our artisans paint details on the aluminum frames entirely by hand, reproducing the knots, veins, and shades of natural rattan to create unique pieces that maintain their beauty unchanged over time.
The aluminum used by cbdesign is finished with epoxy powder, a very important treatment for aesthetic qualities but also for functionality, as it protects the metal itself from atmospheric agents, chlorine, and salt water, ensuring the collections a long-lasting lifetime. One of the strengths of cbdesign is customization, which lets customers choose and combine the colors for each individual component to create customized products: the 12 frame hues can be combined with the 12 synthetic fiber tints and the 12 shades of wrapping to create over 1700 color combinations.
